Cheapest by category

If you want the lowest price within a category rather than overall:

CategoryCheapest picks (typical /yr)
Cheapest generic (gTLD).xyz ~$2 · .space ~$3 · .website ~$3 · .info ~$4 · .online ~$4
Cheapest country-code (ccTLD).pl ~$6 · .ru ~$7 · .cn ~$8 · .de ~$8 · .es ~$8
Cheapest trusted legacy.com ~$11 · .org ~$12 · .net ~$13
Cheapest for e-commerce.shop ~$5 · .store ~$5
Watch the renewal. The single biggest trap with cheap domains is a low first-year price that renews at 5–20×. Before you commit, look up the standard renewal at your registrar — a "$1" domain that renews at $40 is more expensive over three years than a steady .com.

Restricted & sponsored TLDs (not openly priced)

These sponsored top-level domains are not sold on the open market — they require eligibility and are excluded from the price ranking above.

Cheapest TLDs — frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest TLD / domain extension?
On typical standard annual pricing, .xyz is usually the cheapest mainstream TLD at around $2/yr, followed by .space and .website (~$3) and .info, .online and .site (~$4). Some registrars run even lower first-year promotions, but the renewal price is what matters long-term.
Why are some domain extensions so cheap?
New generic TLDs such as .xyz, .online and .site compete against the entrenched .com, so their registries set low wholesale prices and registrars discount heavily to win volume. The catch is that some cheap first-year deals renew much higher — always check the renewal rate.
Is a cheap TLD bad for SEO?
No. Google and Bing treat all valid generic TLDs equally for ranking, so a cheap .xyz or .online page can rank exactly as high as a .com. Price has no SEO effect; the real considerations are trust, memorability and the renewal cost. See how to compare and choose a TLD.
